Feng Shui Your Baby\'s Room

Congratulations on expecting a new bundle of joy into your life! There are so many things to do and just not enough time! You are eventually going to be planning your baby’s nursery and this gcan be crucial on how well your baby sleeps which affects you, as well. You can begin by following the basic Feng Shui methods of arranging and decorating rooms in any living space.

This is a Chinese system of interior design that promotes better chi – positive energy flow. It can help you ensure your baby is happy by planning a nursery that will encourage growth, inspiration and wonder. Poor Feng Shui will contribute to a baby who can’t sleep and tends to get sick. When planning a nursery, think of it as a special retreat for relaxation and bonding with your little one. Trust your senses and go with your instincts. If it feels good to you, you want to be there and it will create harmony and peace for your child. When choosing color schemes, stay away from too many bright colors. Opt for more soothing colors such as those in the pastel color family that you are more drawn to.

Have different sources of light in the room at various times of the day. The lights should be neither too dark which promotes respiratory problems, nor too light so they won’t rest deeply. Keep toys and electrical appliances to a minimum as it promotes too much stimulation. The placement of the crib is one of the most important things to consider. It should not be directly in line with the door, under a slanted ceiling, close to a door, or under a window. Open windows every day when possible or use a small fan to circulate the air, and use a mobile to create movement and soft energy.

To invigorate your baby’s sense of smell, use essential oils with the calming scents of lavender, vanilla, rose, or chamomile. If possible, choose natural material such as wood for the furnishings as opposed to plastic. The room itself should not be next to a noisy room, above a garage, or an empty space. Be careful when choosing nature designs, as some of the animals can be too aggressive. The baby’s nursery should be a haven as well as a source of stimulation for your little one. By using these methods, your baby should be less fussy and more comfortable.
